As I continue to think about my life and family, I look back to how it used to be and how it is today and where I my happiness lies. Things have changed but stayed the same. Here is how.
After school when I was a kid, I would go outside and play till dark. I would get dirty and cut and be out in all weather. It was great. Now, I have two kids and take them outside after school and play and get dirty and cut and stay out rain or shine. Awesome!
When I was a kid, I’d love to try things that I couldn’t do. I would ride my bike up and down hills until I could do it without failing. I would shoot hockey pucks at the side of my house until I could hit any point at any time on the forehand or the backhand. I would pitch baseballs over home plate over and over until I could throw a strike no matter what. Now I train specifically a couple times a week to develop my weaknesses in climbing. Sweet.
When I was a kid, I would get home and immediately do my chores around the house and my homework (homework first cause mom said). Today, I get home and play with the boys, fit in a little house work, put the boys to bed and then back to the house work. I still hate painting and detail work but I don’t mind sweeping and roughing things out. Glad my wife loves the details. We make such a great team : )
When I was a kid, I would go camping with my family and eventually friends when I was old enough. Now, I still go camping with my family and friends. Love it!
When I was a kid, I would always get things done as fast as I could. Today, I still try and do but some things take a long time to accomplish and it requires so many more skills and qualities. Now, I have to use patience and instead of getting upset like I did as a kid. Now, I just have to wait until the time is right. Grrrrrr, waiting is not easy!
When I was young I was stubborn. Today, I am still stubborn. Maybe this is not a good thing, its hard to change.
When I was a kid I was happy. Today, I am very happy. That is a nice change. Thanks to my family and friends, love you guys : )
